Maestro Impro™ is a Keith Johnstone format licensed by the International Theatresports Institute. Impro Melbourne is the only company in Victoria that has permission to use the format.
Maestro Impro™ is an elimination format created by Keith Johnstone.
It can be described as impro Survivor-who will be the last improvisor standing. As with all Johnstone formats what the audience sees is quite different from the philosophy and mechanics behind the format. In reality, Maestro is about support, team work, creating a show with variety and working together to create an illusion for the audience.
For the performer, Maestro offers a show contrasting games with free scenes, group/pair scenes and solo work. Maestro is challenging for the players as they do not know who they will play with or what they will be asked to do. It also helps players learn and understand the overall shape of a show to see how each individual scene influences and impacts the whole performance. Plus, as the audience scores the scenes, it teaches how an audience perceives a show and what they actually want to see.
This course will finish with a one-hour performance on Saturday 5th March at the Courthouse hotel 7 pm - 8 pm.
Prerequisites: Impro Melbourne's Spontaneity, Narrative Technique, Character and Scene Work courses, or similar training at the discretion of the Artistic Director or course instructor.
