Jane Austen Improvised - Comedy Festival

Step into Regency England for an evening of wit, romance, and delightful chaos!

Straight from its Sold Out season in 2025, Jane Austen Improvised RETURNS To the Melbourne International Comedy Festival!

Dearest Friends,

It is with great delight that we extend an invitation to an evening that will transport you to the heart of Regency England, where charm and chaos mingle in perfect harmony. This performance, inspired by the wit and romance of Miss Jane Austen, is wholly improvised—a tale woven in the moment by our talented cast.

Each night, the story unfolds in a manner entirely unique, shaped by your very suggestions. You can expect spirited heroines, dashing suitors, meddlesome relatives, and misunderstandings aplenty, as we craft a narrative worthy of Austen’s pen—one that is never to be repeated.

Whether you are an ardent admirer of Austen’s works or simply in search of an evening filled with clever comedy, we assure you that this performance promises laughter, surprises, and an unforgettable journey into a world of tea, manners, and mischievous matchmaking. During Melbourne Comedy festival Jane Austen Improvised was delighted to have a sold-out run so to avoid disappointment please book early.

We do hope you will join us for what promises to be a most entertaining and memorable occasion.

Yours most sincerely,
The Cast of Jane Austen Improvised

P.S

For those who wish to embrace the spirit of the regency era we warmly encourage you to join us for a complimentary pre-show treat of tea and jam scones!—an ideal way to get into the mood of Austen’s world!

This show was originally created by Paul Rogan and Dan O’Connor with Impro Theatre in Los Angeles.

"With Jane Austen Improvised, the team at Impro Melbourne prove that they are masters of their craft, presenting a show with all the love and care that the source material deserves. Jane Austen would be proud." - By Natalie Ristovski - Theatre Matters

- Fundraising night Sunday 12th April - from 6PM

Before the show, step into Jane Austen's world — through the eyes of her family.

Caroline Jane Knight is Jane Austen's fifth great-niece and the last of Jane's nieces to grow up at Chawton House, the ancestral estate in Hampshire where Jane lived, wrote, and published her most beloved novels. She'll be joining us ahead of the performance to share stories of her extraordinary childhood in Jane's world — and to bring a piece of it with her, including china from the very dinner service chosen when Jane went on a shopping trip in London in 1813.

Caroline will also share Jane’s lifelong love of theatre, her childhood spent performing plays in the family barn, and why the woman behind those perfectly observed drawing room comedies was, at heart, a born performer.

All profits from the evening go to the Jane Austen Literacy Foundation, the global volunteer charity founded by Caroline in 2014, which supports literacy programs in developing communities around the world.
