What is this song really about?

with Brenna Dixon

Improvised songs and scene work are often taught separately. I believe that they can (and should) be coached simultaneously.

This workshop asks improvisers to view songs as an extension of the scene that were created in and not as a separate entity. Through side coaching, participants will build on their ability to play committed characters, be changed by their scene partners and respond emotionally. We will explore how to create a song that is truly born from the scene and instead of relying on a pre-determined structure, create the structure that suits this specific song.

This workshop will start with exercises to encourage participants to listen deeply to their scene partners and play with emotion, and then the majority of the workshop will involve scene work with side coaching.

Prerequisites: Impro Melbourne’s Spontaneity course and a beginner's Songprov course or equivalent impro experience as determined by the Artistic Director.
