From lost and lonely New York bachelors to entitled magical princesses. From yearning pointillist painters to murderous barbers, Sondheim's musicals were game-changing creations that traversed genre and theme, but always with the emphasis on the human experience.
In this course, we'll take our existing Songprov skills and explore how we can craft improvised musicals full of Sondheimian ambivalence, yearning, and character flaw.
With his sublime wordplay and melody as our guide, we'll play with irony, counterpoint & pacing and delve into how his narrative techniques map over his chosen themes.
Get ready to be treacherous and villainous, lost and alone, and so in love you think your heart will implode.
Class size is limited to a maximum of 12.
